Using Photoshop, I digitally cut the emperor out of the tapestry, and filled in the hole he left. I then filled in the missing parts of my cutout, separated it into small pieces, filling any gaps where parts overlapped (for instance where the emperor's leg covers the horse).
I made an animation rig in Adobe After Effects (a first for me) and made a simple walking animation.
It is not exactly a polished animation, you might notice the dislocated knee on the horse for instance. As this was only ever a test, its main use was never more than an experiment to come up with new ideas.
